White Male Conspiracy To Drive Me Homeless

The Day I Got Called Sean Parker
Sean Parker, Billionaire, Was Really Poor Once
The Sean Parker Analogy

So I met this White Male at this NY Tech MeetUp after party months and months back. He called me Sean Parker. And I am like, now I am stuck. I have a reputation to live up to. I have not rented a place in months. I have been bouncing around.

The Proverbial White Male

I smell a white male conspiracy to drive me homeless.

The Internet In 2015

The Mind Of An Entrepreneur

Map of Austin, TexasImage via WikipediaIn search of a consulting gig I am in talks with an early stage entrepreneur in Texas. It is amazing to watch his mind work. He has been active in the space he wants to build his tech startup in for almost a decade. The guy has been immersed. That is a good sign. He has a wonderful slide deck. It really spells out the vision. And he has raised some angel money from his brother.

The passion comes through. The knowledge comes through.

One thing I also noted was the dude is suspicious of VC money. He'd rather not take VC money. That thought process was amusing to me. If you end up facing a situation where you are having to decide if you want to take VC money or not, that is a swell situation to be in. Of course he is just starting, he is not there. But it was something to hear him say that.

My Plan For Internet Week

My plan for Internet Week - not set in stone - is to just show up and camp out in that one building and meet as many people as possible. Mind you, I did not say attend as many panels as possible, although one can expect overlap. If people are watching the panels, where you gonna go?

June 6, 7, 8, 9. I am carving out those days.

The Internet Week: The Thing To Do

Social Media Week makes you run around. I don't need to be doing sight seeing in New York City. After taking visiting Nepali dignitaries on citywide tours when doing democracy work for Nepal a few years back, I got to see everything multiple times. Enough. Now get me people.

What's Up With Pictures?

(This post was rejected by Technorati with this comment: It's not news and the only links are to your own blog.)

Image representing Instagram as depicted in Cr...Image via CrunchBasePictures are all the rage, and Instagram deserves much credit. True, Facebook already had billions of pictures before Instagram even showed but with Facebook people thought - with the exception of Fred Wilson - it was a social network rather than a photo sharing site. With Instagram the facade was gone.

There is just something about pictures. The old adage of a picture being worth a thousand words might be true. Something tells me that even after the world might have moved on to gigabit speeds, pictures will still rule. Because a picture is respectful. You know going in that it need not be more than a split second experience. But a 30 second video is a time commitment. And so the picture will hold its ground even as bandwidth goes up. Actually pictures might expand ground. As the bandwidth expands, people might share more and more pictures. Go figure.
